16th Street Soul ICHSA 2026 Midwest Semifinals Champions

At Warren Central High School, a group of nine voices is proving that greatness isn’t limited to the athletic field. Known as 16th Street Soul, the school’s elite a cappella ensemble is preparing to take its talents to New York City, where they will compete among the top high school groups in the world.

“This group is something special,” said Brian Long. “They’ve done more this year than we’ve ever done.”

Their journey to the international stage includes winning both quarterfinals and semifinals—an achievement that reflects not only talent, but relentless dedication. Behind the scenes are long rehearsals, individual practice, and a shared commitment to excellence.

“It takes a lot more teamwork than you’re used to,” said Kaylie Jones. “But it’s so much more rewarding than anything I’ve ever been a part of.”

That bond is the heartbeat of the group. Members describe 16th Street Soul as a family—one built on trust, accountability, and a shared passion for music.

“We’re not only trying to win, but make a name for our department,” said Corey Smith, highlighting the group’s desire to elevate performing arts at Warren Central.

As they prepare to perform on a historic New York stage, excitement is high—even as the competition looms large.

“It’s intimidating, but we know what we bring to the table,” one student shared.

But getting there comes at a cost—nearly $1,800 per student. While support has come from families, friends, and the community, more help is needed.

This is where the far eastside—and the city—can step in. Supporting 16th Street Soul isn’t just funding a trip; it’s investing in young talent, arts education, and students representing Indianapolis on a global stage.

When they take the stage in New York, they’ll carry more than music—they’ll carry the hopes of a community.
