The boys basketball team is off to a strong start, with a record of 20-1 as they look to win another state championship this season.

The Warriors began their season with a formidable start, winning 14 straight games, with an average score of 70 points per game.

With a team majority of seniors, the boys have a “win now mentality” when it comes to the state title. Seniors Manuel Brown Jr., Jesse Bingham, Isiah Moore, David Bell, Jakobie Robinson, and Shawn Beeler are among the top players who impact the Warrior game in various ways. Bingham has been a force on the team thus far this season, leading the Warriors to a victory over Muncie Central by a score of 79-53 with a career high of 33 points against Muncie Central.

The Warriors won the Marion County tournament for the second year in a row with a close win over Lawrence Central in the finals. The team trailed for most of the game, until the fourth quarter, where they took over and won with a score of 60-56.

With one of the strongest schedules in the state, the Warriors are constantly facing tough competition night-in and night-out and know that there is never a game they can take easy.

“Our guys know they shouldn’t take a breather,” head coach Chris Beyers said. “After last year our guys know they can’t take a breather with our schedule.”

The Warriors had their share of opportunities to show their toughness, including over winter break when they won the Hall of Fame Classic for the first time in school history defeating Center Grove in the finals with a score of 52-50.

Moore was the tournament MVP and had his shining moments in the championship game with a three pointer that sent the game into overtime and a go-ahead-jumper that put the Warriors ahead for the remainder of the game.

“It felt really good, but I have a lot to work on. As a team, we also have to improve and focus on winning,” Moore said.

Unfortunately, the boys’ winning streak fell at 46 games to Lawrence Central on Pink Out Night. Instead of taking the loss to the heart, the boys took it as a way to get better and continue their improvement overall.

“We need to just take one game at a time and keep working hard during practices,” Moore said.

The following day the boys bounced back from the tough loss to win six straight so far wins, including a win over Zionsville at Bankers Life on Indiana Basketball day.

The Warriors look to extend their winning streak tonight as they face the Southport Cardinals. With only a handful of games left in the regular season, the team knows what they have to do to be at their best come tournamnet time.

“We’ll be going back and looking at the film to see what we’re doing wrong and keep trying ot correct htat for the next game,” Beeler said.
