Cafe Cabaret is an annual talent show that will be held today at 6 p.m. and has been a popular segment hosted by Warren Central for the last four years. The show is dedicated to all students and teachers who want to show off any kind of ability or special talent they have.

“Cafe Cabaret is a talent show used to highlight different performers here at Warren Central,” theater director Jeffery Dalstrom said. “Not just performing arts students, but students and teachers that maybe have special talent. It is a talent show that's not stuffy. It encourages everyone to participate.”

It first started a while back when Dalstrom decided to incorporate more drama-related activities into the high school. The idea to keep it going came from the very first round of applications when he got 90 submissions and a show that lasted three hours.

From performing arts students to football players, all types of people are welcome to participate in this annual show. Although one of the things that makes this year so special is that this year is the first year a teacher is participating in Cafe Cabaret. Science teacher Joshua Law will be the first teacher to ever participate in the show.

“I’ve thought about doing Cafe Cabaret in the past, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to,” Law said. “Music requires an accompanist, soundtrack and a lot of preparation. I didn't want to memorize a monologue since that takes too much effort. But finally this year, I had the best idea to do a dramatic reading. There's so much talent in Warren, both in the staff and students, and Cafe Cabaret gives a low-key way for both parties to express their talents.”

Cafe Cabaret gives students the chance to show their peers things others might find interesting about them. From juggling, instrumentalists, vocalists and more, this show has lots to offer spectators in the crowd as well as fellow performers.

“I want to do Cafe Cabaret because it’s my senior year,” senior Kevin Robleto said. “I wasn't able to do auditions at all throughout my high school career because of football. I’ve been interested in auditioning for the last three years.”

Robleto is not only a varsity football player but also an advanced theater student and choir student and has been the last three years of high school. With demanding football seasons, he was never able to perform for Cafe Cabaret. Although now that his time is no longer limited to a sport, he can go off and gain experience towards his acting and performing career he aims to achieve.

With each year bringing new talent, Cafe Cabaret is another thing Warren Central can put down in the books. It is a legacy the Performing Arts Department holds dear.

“It really is an inspirational night. Everyone is really positive and supportive, and it's really neat just to see the broad range of talent down here at Warren Central,” Dalstrom said.
